Event Details

The Clear Creek ON THE RISE Festival is capitalizing on the popularity of Clear Creek (now the 3rd most commercially rafted river in Colorado!) and it's proximity to large population centers interested in river recreation to create an event showcasing several facets of whitewater competition and instruction- all amid a fun festival atmosphere.  The 3-day event will feature:

- Several competitions- including a water rodeo at the newly constructed whitewater park in Lawson, a professional 8 mile raft and kayak downriver race on a Class III/IV stretch of Clear Creek, and a Citizen's Challenge raft race teaming groups of "average citizens" with professional guides for a 6 mile Class II/III course.

- A full slate of instructional courses- from Learn-to-Roll kayak sessions and Kids' Introduction to Kayaking classes to courses in Intermediate/Advanced Playboating.

- A true festival atmosphere at the largest riverside park in Idaho Springs, featuring vendor/sponsor booths and displays, live music, and refreshments.

- A stop of the Reel Paddling International Film Festival showcasing the best films from many paddling disciplines.

The ON THE RISE festival will not only offer competitive and fun events for athletes and spectators alike, but will also raise both awareness and funding for the local nonprofit GOALS (“Get Outside And Learn Something”).  This valuable organization, whose mission is to “inspire exploration in youth through multi-day wilderness river trips” encourages kids to put away their video games and electronic media for a period of several days and learn to push themselves, trust one another, and recognize the growth that occurs mentally and physically during a desert canyon wilderness river trip.

GOALS (Get Outside And Learn Something) and Tommyknocker Brewery

GOALS (Get Outside And Learn Something) is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization created by a teacher and commercial river guide after witnessing first-hand the profound impact that a meaningful outdoor experience can have on kids who spend way too much time indoors.  After organizing and leading multi-day wilderness river expeditions for the students at his school, the founder of GOALS longed for the same opportunities to be available for kids throughout the state of Colorado and across the country.

The mission behind GOALS programs is to "inspire exploration in youth through multi-day wilderness river trips", and the long and short of what we do is this...GOALS programs separate kids from their video games and computers for a period of several days where they learn to push themselves, trust one another, take healthy risks, and recognize the growth that occurs both physically and mentally during a desert canyon wilderness trip.  The experience gained through participating in a GOALS wilderness river program creates a sense of confidence in groups of youth who are empowered to become ecologically sound, global citizens equipped with new understandings about their individual responsibility to the development of a sustainable environment, and the opportunities that doing so provides for them and for generations to come.

This race, held on the creek that GOALS founder Brett Hochmuth has guided on for over a decade at a time where it will be near its' peak annual flow, has been made possible through the generous support of Tommyknocker Brewery.  All revenue generated through event registration will go directly to GOALS - allowing this great organization to get even more kids outdoors.
